Gossip behind the aprons The restaurant that I work at shall henceforth be known as Dimanche*. For Sunday in French. :) Just because I think that everyone who goes there feels like it's a lazy Sunday. Anyway, at Dimanche last week: Lady: Hi, can you get me a Drambuie on the rocks, with no ice? No ice, okay? Me: .... Sure. Took a lot of effort not to just blink at her. Or laugh like a hyena let loose. Burst out laughing behind the bar and related the story to the barista who replied, "Did you ask her if she wants some gravel with that?" At times like that, I forget that my feet are aching, my hair is all over the place and I have 2 hours to go of the crowd that is queueing outside. Priceless. Over a beer with the workmates afterwards, one of them said that he is heading off for Melbourne. I hated telling him that he'd love it there, simply because I want him to stay and make me laugh. :( We were talking about tips and he related this story. He used to work at a hotel in Germany and there was a man who bought a cigar that cost something like $49.95. When he brought over the change (5 cents) and proceeded to leave, the man called out to him, and handed him the change, saying 'This is for you. Keep it.', like he was being most generous. How ridiculous! Needless to say, if you're bloody going to tip people 5 cents, you might as well just not. Planning on keeping my tips till the end of the year. Let's see how that works out. ;) Oh yeah, heard of Waiter Rant? Love his page! :)
I think I missed the exit to Dreamland! Haha, it feels like one of those times when I wanna turn on Ray LaMontagne, and pretend to sing along 'I could hold you in my armssss, ohhhhhhhhhh'. And smile to myself idiotically, dreaming of some perfect man, dancing about with a massive stuffed toy in my room, sidestepping the mess and forgetting that I'm not Cinderella in disguise, but a mere girl in her blue pyjamas with butterflies. But you know, of course, it's 3 fricken am and I should be asleep! :P I'm on a one week break and it feels like it isn't a break. The weekend isn't gonna be a weekend since I'm working on Friday, Saturday and horror of horrors, a full day on Sunday (11-4, 6-11). Isn't it just fantastic? But of course, I will be out for an awesome breakfast tomorrow morning, be at a costume party at night (costume searching involved scoping adult shops today and I felt quite sick at the end of it :P) and go absolutely mad jumping about at Fall Out Boy/Jack's Mannequin/Gyroscope's gig on Thursday night, with an optional after-party. What a crazy week. Balance that with other activities and I'm really going to go insane here! Speaking of insane, has anyone watched 'We Don't Live Here Anymore'? I haven't finished it because the disc is scratched but can I just say it is extremely fucked up? To the max! Really, who does such things to themselves?! And how am I supposed to look at these actors/actresses the same way ever again? Uh-uh, I'm guessing I never will! Sickkk. Someone tell me a bedtime story. I need. to. sleep!
Snow Patrol in Brisbane Entertainment Centre
Oh bloody hell. My entire post just got wiped out. :( It was about Snow Patrol's gig on the 19th of Sept at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre. Opening acts: Silversun Pickups and Iain Archer. Oh, the sudden burst of Irish accents! I know Gary's (lead - SPatrol) from the North. Dunno about the rest. Silversun Pickups has a chick on bass. GASP! How fricken cool! Regret missing out on their performance at the Valley Fiesta after this because I thought they rocked out. Iain Archer's Canal Love Song was especially enjoyable because besides being the only song by him that I knew before this, I actually like it. Hehe. Anyway, awaiting Snow Patrol... ![]() And announcing their arrival! ![]() They kicked off the show with 'Hands Open'. ![]() Naturally, because the tour is based on 'Eyes Open', they performed most songs from that album. They skipped 'You Could Be Happy', which I thought was a shame because it's a very cute song. Listen to it and you'll get why I say it's cute. ![]() They also performed Signal Fire, Run, Chocolate, Spitting Games, Set The Fire to the Third Bar (assisted by a chick from Iain Archer's band) and How To Be Dead. ![]() 80 bucks was well-worth it. I'd do it all over again and again and fricken again! :) ![]() And I have now established myself as a groupie by forking out 45 bucks for a tour T-shirt. :P But it's the very same T-shirt that I wanted to get while I was in London but sold out. Hah! ![]() Easily, the most popular song of the night was Chasing Cars. Dan, who took Trinity's place that night, only knew this one and Signal Fire, the latter because it's on the Spiderman soundtrack of course. Haha. But it was also nice to discover that there were people in the audience just like me, who knows every word to 'Make This Go On Forever'. I can't get over that song. The power of the chorus. Just everything. ![]() I would have to say the most magical part of the night was at the end of Shut Your Eyes, when everyone was repeating the line 'shut your eyes and sing to me'. If you really had shut your eyes and sung along, maybe you would have felt something. Like I did. The magnitude of such sound and feel, it was just enough to make me sway on my feet, overcome by how people could abandon all their reserve and sound so united. So free. When Gary told the ladies to sing it and we did, he said he'd like the beautiful ladies of Brisbane to sing when he gets married. Aw. And when the men did it, he said he felt afraid and a bit turned on. Possibly because he was afraid, and so he got turned on. LOL! ![]() Gary had a great sense of humour. He started talking about how this man in the audience with a beard seemed to be enjoying himself immensely, how Irish men grow ginger beards, his hair is black yet his beard is ginger?!, how he envies the man's beard and that it's lustrious, he loves the word 'lustrious' and maybe he would meet with the man after the show and he could lick it? Erm.. RIGHT! You strange Irish man, hahaha. Finished off with 'glad we could have this conversation over the microphone'. Just got reminded by a comment on Youtube that this bearded man got Chasing Cars dedicated to him. I. hate you. Super jealous. :P ![]() Amazing lighting. ![]() Yes, the best pictures don't have the band on stage. Shush. :P ![]() There's something about Snow Patrol. In T-shirts and jeans, they were simply amazing. From a stadium filled with people, they made me feel like I was seated in a cosy tearoom with just them as they slouched in stuffed armchairs, not bothering if their socks matched, and someone held my hand as they performed and Gary sung my heart's contents right back at me. Hehe, cukup emo sial, but my god, it was just fucking cool to be in a gig and know every damn song! I loved their music prior to the show, but now, it's just gone beyond that. They're the same from CD to persons. I only wish the other band members could've said something. Anything! And now, videos. Because sharing is caring. ;) CHASING CARS MAKE THIS GO ON FOREVER Now... does anyone know if Gary is married? :P
Missing hor fun! So I thought I'd stop procrastinating and finally register myself with the Malaysian Students Department today. Really, I lost my form all those years ago. Something about it being filled out, put into an envelope and then misplaced. ANYWAY, there were all the usual questions like name, address, course, passport, IC, blah blah. Last bit was fucking hilarious though: To validate who you are: Apakah ibu negeri perak? (Yeah, the P wasn't in capitals) And for a minute, I was like, what about silver? Then I realised, OH. Right. Next sarcastic thought: yup, that SO validates who the hell I am. *smirk*
Lyrics that really sing to you.
Love these songs. Selected the ones that are not sad. Or at least, not very sad in contrast to the others I also listen to, lol. If you trust my taste, search them out if you don't already know them: You don't know how lovely you are. (Coldplay - The Scientist) alwaysgonnaloveyou, alwaysthinkingofyou. (Lit - Lullaby) On your machine, I slur a plea for you to come home. (Death Cab for Cutie - A Lack of Color) I need you like I've never needed anything before. (Firehouse - I Live My Life For You) If I just lay here, would you lie with me & just forget the world? (Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars) If you're lost, you can look and you WILL find me. (Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time {you can search out the alt rock version by Quiet Drive}) This love isn't good unless it's me&you. (Tegan & Sara - I Know I Know I Know) Our hands will not be taught to hold another's. (Missy Higgins - The Special Two) It's been too long and I'm l o s t without you (Aaliyah - Miss You) The city spins around, you're the only 1one1 who knows to slow it down (The Fray - Look After You) I think about you, baby and I dream about you all the time. (Three Doors Down - Here Without You) Izinkan ku mencuri bayangan wajahmu... (Manbai - Kau Ilhamku) Send a little love my way. (Tegan & Sara - Don't Confess) I don't mind spending everyday out on your corner in the pouring rain. (Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved) This is not what I'm like; I think I'm falling for you. (The Magic Numbers - I See You, You See Me) If there's no one beside you when your soul embarks, then I'll follow you into the dark. (Death Cab for Cutie - I'll Follow You Into The Dark) Go now... I'll be there when you call me. (James Blunt - Fall At Your Feet {I don't like the Crowded House original}) I can't take my eyes off YOU. (Damien Rice - The Blower's Daughter) In your house, I long to be, room by room, patiently... (Audioslave - Like A Stone) I can't stop loving you. (Bryan Adams - Please Forgive Me) The greatest fan of your life. (Edwin McCain - I'll Be) (When everything's meant to be broken) I just want you to know who I am. (Goo Goo Dolls - Iris) [Wanted to include Chinese songs like Lee Hom's Wei Yi, Penny Dai's Ni Yao De Ai, and Jay Chou's Kai Bu Liao Kou but thought the pin yin would look strange.] And it's strange that things change but not me wanting you. (Michelle Branch - Desperately) I've found a reason for me to change who I used to be. (Hoobastank - The Reason) I will leave this man just to occupy one minute of your day. (Ingrid Michaelson - Corner of Your Heart) Kehilangan cinta hati bagai raga tak bernyawa. (Misha Omar & Jaclyn Victor - Cinta {don't like the Melly and Kris Dayanti original either} I'm in love with you, I'm not so far away. (Thirsty Merc - Someday, Someday) Maybe you're the only man who could ever help me. (Jem - Maybe I'm Amazed) Cause I'll give you my heart if you would let me start all over again. (Justin Timberlake - Another Song) The perfect words never crossed my mind cause there was nothing in there but YOU. (Snow Patrol - Signal Fire) Seeing the boys from Snow Patrol tomorrow evening! :)
Hello, I-don't-care-who-you-are. So... I'm gonna remove my chat box because some idiot has been pretending to be me. *rolls eyes* How old are you, like five? So grade school. Pathetic that you want to become someone who isn't you. Even anonymous comments are not as cowardly. I wouldn't even call it a low blow cause it's barely a poke. Rather, it made me laugh and feel pity for you. Oh, the sad life that you have. Please do something useful with yourself. Run along now, child. :P Ahh, gotta love random shit that amuses me. Anna, thanks for saying hello though, haha. ;)
How do you decide? The culprit of my frustration in class yesterday: Many adults consider certain qualities important for achieving success in love and marriage. On the basis of your own experience, please rank how important you feel each of the following factors is in a successful relationship. Circle 7 nexxt to the most important characteristi, 6 for the next, and so on down to 1. Make sure that a different rank is given in each row. No two characteristics can receive the same rank.
