Review: Louise Bagshawe's Monday's Child
I've just finished reading Louise Bagshawe's Monday's Child (Headline Book Publishing, 2004), and I love it to bits! Anna Brown, central character, is someone who's easy to love. She's gorgeous, but has no idea she is. Her idea of dressing up is an apparel that will cause no one to glance at her twice. All because of previous horrid experiences, her life is shadowed. And then she slowly begins to discover her talent and worth. Her friends help her realise her full potential and her beauty becomes obvious. She has always known so much about making people feel good about themselves, but she finally learns that she can feel good about herself too. Sounds cliche, doesn't it? The author is all the difference. Bagshawe injects a lot of humour into her book, and makes the situation less cliched, more unpredictable, and you flip the pages so fast, your eyes hurt. You just want to keep going and going. I love that the main male character isn't the obliging pushover, a real softie on the inside. Most of all, it makes me wish even more fervently that I'm in London. I really love it when people write that everyone can change for the better, both inside and outside, simply because it's inspiring. Books like these seem silly but they change people's lives. They instil confidence. They make you believe in yourself and hope for the better. And I especially love happy endings. One man for one woman. Finding that love. Whatever the heck they try to feed me that I eagerly lap up. What can I say, I'm a sucker for anything romantic. :) It says 11 pounds on the back of the book, but I got it for 8 Aussie bucks. Not an alcoholic #2 Remember my post about me not being an alcoholic? Well, I went back and added Southern Comfort to the list. And then Carey reminded me that I finished her Midori at her birthday party. =.= I still can't believe I did that, how rude! So bloody sorry!! Last updated: 30 November 2006
Sweet 18th, lovely. You listen not only to what I say, but what I don't... Thanks for listening all this time. P/S: His birthday really is on the 10th, my post is just late. But I'm on time by 10 minutes Malaysian time! :)
Trust Stop staring at me if only to evoke a response; I don't submit to force Don't smile at me. I hate pretend games, and a game by any other name... I'm boiling inside, the anger threatening to spill over like a kettle with too much water There's a craving to start the fight all over again, inflict upon us both more pain But it's only because of this hurt that pushes the heart to the surface; it makes it all so loveless Why is it that trust is so hard to earn and so easily broken...?
the 2 parties Wow, I really think everyone was out to go to Drunkenland last night. I headed to Tristin's first, since I had agreed to come to his party earlier, and besides, I hadn't seen his family for ages. His birthday was 2 Mondays ago, but who cares! I think he liked the poker set I got him, especially the 4 shot glasses that we made good use of! ![]() We got the food and drinks and set his place up real nice. Once we picked the rest of the guys up, the party got into full swing. Ali came sauntering in with *gasp* a bottle of Finlandia Vodka and another bottle of Conquistador Tequilla! Ooh, helloooooo! ![]() We stuff more food into our mouths to avoid getting drunk and then proceed to experiment with the vodka, orange juice and lemonade. ![]() Next we were educated by the guys on how to take tequilla shots! Okay, I honestly don't really remember how tequilla tastes like cause I hurriedly gulped it down, but the technique itself is soooo enticing! For those who don't know how to do it, you gotta lick salt from your hand, down the tequilla and suck on the lime. It sounds weird, but once you do it once, you'll love it! ;) ![]() That party was mostly food, drinks, loud hip-hop music, creating mad dance moves, and catching up with people from uni. It's funny how you hardly see each other, even when you're on the same campus, what more those who don't even go to the same uni. Ahhh, I miss seeing people like Carey around a lot. ![]() Told you she's kinky!! ;) Then I said goodbye to everyone and caught a lift to the next party! I got there and THE boy* opened the door for me, only to find a whole mass of people outside, already leaving, and wish Kevin a happy birthday, only to have him shove a whole carton of VB into my arms. Thanks, buddy! :P But yay, THE boy* grabbed it off me. Wheee, sometimes I like being the helpless female. ;) ![]() I only missed out on the eating part and Kevin's earlier drinking, so I thought, no big deal. After all, we were planning on getting him absolutely smashed. Well, I was, anyway. ;) And then I went into the kitchen to find Ryan and Yi Ting happily mixing something... ![]() Notice the sticker that says "love me".. :P If that is not a huge watermelon... then I'm not seventeen! They dug out half the watermelon or more, left some juice in there and proceeded to pour Smirnoff in. Oh. My. God! You guys are ingenious! *kowtows* I can't believe you bought this for 20 bucks, Aundre! Lol! ![]() He approved, I guess, cause we started playing blackjack! With Kevin as the dealer, of course. ;) But first, another look at that monster... ![]() (Sze Aun (in orange) looking over the watermelon, even as he takes a smoke, lol) Yeah... it's massive! So with the blackjack, Kevin was obviously the loser here, since we were all owning him with good cards. The guy that helped him before with his debts (sorry, I can't remember his name!) left and Sze Aun took over. Soon enough, Sze Aun was drunk and he began picking Yi Ting up. Hahaha, you could've made it a little less obvious! ![]() Once, the watermelon stuff runs out, I decide to offer my Smirnoff Double Blacks. Ooh, yummm, it began to taste much better. And then in goes Victoria Bitter, a form of beer. When that was gone, we were going by half cans of VB. ![]() Finally, Jonathan got back with another bottle of Smirnoff and Sprite. Yes, we're all aspiring alcoholics. How'd you know? We continued with the blackjack for awhile before we switched to the drinking game. Ahhh, fun fun. Always a bag of laughs. And this is pretty much how the night ended... ![]() (Ryan, Kevin and Jed, with Ben's foot) either we had a good time laughing at other people, we were busy drinking or we did stupid things. I know I was the first two! :) And for the first time ever, I heard Jed swear. A lot. Haha, now I know how to tell when he's drunk! At 2 am, Sharon, Kevin and I left to catch the bus. For the first few minutes, I really thought Kevin was gonna take a tumble. Awww. too bad there were no shopping trolleys around, theZebra. Well, we all got home safe and sound, and I was just happy. Hehe, I love weekends where you don't have to worry about exams and assignments, enjoy everyone's company while you party hard! To all the April birthdays, cheers! ;)
Physical similarities Okay, so some of you will never be able to meet THE boy* in person and I don't see the possiblity of me putting up his photo. But really, I can give you a few ideas of what he's like, in terms of his physical similarities.. with me! ![]() We both wear contact lenses/glasses. I think I'm the blinder bat here though. ![]() He has two piercings on his left ear (well, I think it's left), and so do I, even if I have two on the right ear too. ![]() He thinks he has a tummy. I have one too! (I feel like Otto here, except she doesn't have a tummy, tee-hee) ![]() And we both have football legs = defined calves! But that's where our similarities end. Which is good, 'cause I figure I wouldn't wanna date someone who looks just like me, except with no chest, and an extra something...
Guess the song in the shuffle! Because I tagged Max and he's a sore one, he's tagged me back with a different, much more interesting one, to which I want you guys to answer! Be good sports! I want that comment box to be full of guesses! [01] On your current playlist, hit shuffle and pick the first twenty songs on the list. [02] Write down the first line of the song. [03] Have your friends comment and see if they know the songs. [04] When someone guesses correctly, strike out the line and list the correct name of the song next to it. [05] If the first line of the song contains the title, skip it! Note: I only picked the ones that I knew (some of) the lyrics to, and for some, I threw in the next line because they might've been lines from a billion songs otherwise. 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) I can't believe you had the nerve to say the things you said 6) 7) 8) 9) 10) 11) This beat is automatic, supersonic, hypnotic, funky, fresh 12) 13) 14) 15) 16) 17) 18) 19) 20) Funny that I'm doing this tag while Hitz FM is having their million beats competition. ;)
