This might just be about... patriotism? Or not.

A very popular Hindi song came on at the beginning and end of 'The Inside Man', and I ~~started dancing to it~~ was impressed to hear it. So many things are on the move forward, spreading everywhere. My International Relations lecturer would probably tell me that it's an effect of globalisation. Interesting, isn't it?

On the flipside, caught the new Proton Satria Neo ad? The one with the completely dramatic effect? My brother told me it was reminiscent of a BMW ad. Smashpop did say that it looks like a BMW from the side. Even though I don't particularly like BMWs, I'm sure that's a very high compliment.

But the ad... can I ask why the people in it don't seem to be Malaysian, save for that male who appears 2 seconds in the beginning with the other foreign woman? What went wrong? Isn't it a Malaysian car? Shouldn't Malaysians be starring in that ad? It reminds me that not many people in Australia know that the Proton is Malaysian.

I'm confused. Please enlighten me.

Well, on a not-so-related, but still related topic, filmmaking is not be a big thing here in Malaysia, just like psychology, since the only 'proper' fields students should venture in are like law and medicine. *Rolls eyes* But I suppose filmmaking is also one field that will never make it big so long as films like Lelaki Komunis Terakhir get axed. The latest to cop this unfortunate fate is 18?

It provides for those who are unsure of which career path to pursue, instead of just jumping on the bandwagon. Jon: The point is that Proton is Malaysian. All those calls to buy Malaysian goods and they're promoted through non-Malaysians? Merv: Heh, I like the old Satria better. That's dumb, right?

Anyways, in the field of advertisements, it's always important that you capture the customers attention so they go "I WANT!! I WANT!!!" Now showing a couple of samsengs by the kopitiam, although it will capture the customers attention, may suggest something else that will frighten potential customers. Anyways, Honda, Toyota and Mitsubishi are jappy car companies, yet you always see Aussies, never jappies. I think each ad is different. Ford's german theme is just something creative, not all advertisements generally try to go there.


	Kyels July 17, 2006 09:30 PM PDT I've played my part in contributing the meme too. Proton is definitely a Malaysian car and something must have went wrong during the production of the advertisement. I've to say that it's similar to the BMW ad but the thing is that it's a little bit fake. However, to answer your question, it is not that Malaysians are not in the ad itself --- their capabilities are doubted in the first place hence the irony. The problem with Malaysia is they do not appreciate the creative side and they are more scientific hence people chose to be doctors, engineers, researchers, etc. Filmmaking will or will not make it big here we would not know. Psychology is a good degree in which I do not deny but how many people are willing to talk to a psychologist in Malaysia? They'd be having thoughts like "If I go to a psychologist, they might think I am mad." That may be their perception here. Again it's a big question mark. Perceptions are made that Arts are not something good but if you do not try, you'd never know. It's their mentality. The people's mentality when looking at things.
